The workshop will take place in the second largest city of Croatia, Split, on the Adriatic coast, which boasts 1700 years of rich history and a wealth of historical monuments such as the well-preserved palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian.  Bačvice and other lovely sandy and pebble beaches are close to the city centre. The site of the workshop, the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS), is located close to a beach in secluded greenery, which used to host ex-Yugoslav President Tito's villa. Right above MedILS is the favorite hiking place for Split citizens, the Marjan hill. From Marjan a beautiful panorama of Adriatic islands can be seen, including the island of Vis, half-way to Italy.

We have reserved accommodation in nine bedrooms with two beds at the MedILS and three triple bed bedrooms. The foreign invited speakers will be offered first preference to a double bedroom at MedILS.  For your personal accommodation/reservation at MedILS please contact our administrative secretary Ms Irena Bitunjac This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We have also reserved accommodation in ten apartments with one bedroom and in five bedrooms in the student hostel Hostel Spinut http://www.scst.hr/smjestaj.php. Each bedroom has two beds. Your personal accommodation in the student hostel will be reserved in your name only if you contact Ms Irena Bitunjac at your earliest convenience.

Each bedroom at both locations has internet connection and bathroom. Price is moderate (in the range from €40 to €60  per day, per room).
In the student hostel breakfast is included. The student hostel in not far from the MedILS (about 0.5 km), but the tunnel through the Marjan hill, which connects them, can be crossed only by using car or bus. A walkway above the tunnel exists and will take about 30 minutes to reach MedILS by foot from the hostel. In case of need, direct transportation to MedILS will be organized.

There are many additional possibilities for accommodation, but not immediately close to the MedILS. Participants proffering hotel or hostel accommodation closer to historical monuments of the old city can arrange that themselves. Hotel Jadran, at Zvončac beach, is located about 0.5 km from MedILS. Hotel Park, about 2 km from MedILS, possibly the most luxurious hotel in Split, is located next to famous Bačvice beach. A number of quality options can be found via internet search
(www.turistbiro-split.hr) or by contacting Mr. Davor Kovacevic at the e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Participants are strongly advised to make reservation well in advance keeping in mind that August is the peak of the tourist season in Croatia.

City bus number 12 comes from the old city and stops in front of MedILS.
City bus number 17 has its last station in front of the student hostel.
City bus number 8 crosses the Marjan tunnel. During August there may be a city bus line connecting student hostel and MedILS.
